Every third Saturday (except Feb and March), noon-4 pm at New Moon Rising Gifts and Goods, 1520 N Central, Knoxville. You can expect to find tarot readings and folk magic curios at my booth.

Black Cat Book Coven

In Defense of Witches by Mona Chollet, Part 1: The Witch as the Outsider. In this book club gathering, we will be discussing the Forward, the Introduction and the first two chapters of the book In Defense of Witches by Mona Chollet. We will explore:

  • What the figure of the “witch” represents (both historically and symbolically)

  • Women’s autonomy: historically feared or punished for living independently

  • Childlessness as a personal choice vs. social expectation

  • Modern parallels: how women today are still “on trial” for nonconformity

In Defense of Witches by Mona Chollet, Part Two: Resistance and Reclamation. In this meeting, we will be finishing up the discussion with Chapters 3 and 4 and explore:

  • Ambition, visibility, and success — and the backlash women often face

  • Aging and power — how women past childbearing age are treated

  • “Turning the world upside down” as a form of resistance

  • Reclaiming the witch figure for empowerment today
