In Defense of Witches by Mona Chollet, Part 1: The Witch as the Outsider. In this book club gathering, we will be discussing the Forward, the Introduction and the first two chapters of the book In Defense of Witches by Mona Chollet. We will explore:

  • What the figure of the “witch” represents (both historically and symbolically)

  • Women’s autonomy: historically feared or punished for living independently

  • Childlessness as a personal choice vs. social expectation

  • Modern parallels: how women today are still “on trial” for nonconformity
